CHOICES NEWS

The Choices newsletter is issued quarterly and provides up to date information from The Wesley Hospital Kim Walters Choices Program, including health information, updates on breast cancer research and details about Choices programs and events.

 Library
The Choices Library is accessible to all who access the Program.  Books, videotapes and DVDs can be borrowed or used at the Choices Rooms.  The books have been carefully chosen for reliability and accuracy and relate to breast cancer issues, its diagnosis, treatment and ongoing recovery.

Peer Support program
Other women with a similar problem and life situation can share their cancer experience with you.

Public Education and Awareness
Members of the Choices clinical team provide public education and awareness presentations to community groups, corporations, schools etc to provide information about breast awareness, breast and gynaecological cancers. If you would like to organize a workshop in your area you can contact Janine Porter-Steele or Leonie Young for more information on 07 3232 7092.

Regular ward visits
Breast Care Nurses provide information about breast cancer, treatment options and practical advice to inpatients of  the Wesley Hospital, and other South East QLD Hospitals on request. Volunteers and Service organisations sew soft prostheses, arm cushions and drainage bags which are provided to the patient at no cost.

Specialist breast care nurse services  
Assessment, information, support and referral as required. The nurses are specially trained to care for women with breast or gynaecological cancer.

Wig loan service and turban collection
The Wig Loan Service has been established to allow women to borrow wigs during their chemotherapy treatment. A selection of turbans is also available. Knitted beanies are regularly donated to the program by community groups and women who have previously utilised the Program.

  Program Location

The program is located within the grounds of The Wesley Hospital, Auchenflower, Brisbane. Most services are held within the Choices Rooms. Some services are available at the Gold Coast, Caboolture, Roma and Murgon.
