The Choices newsletter is issued quarterly and provides up to date information from The Wesley Hospital Kim Walters Choices Program, including health information, updates on breast cancer research and details about Choices programs and events.

Art Classes
Come and learn how to paint and draw under the guidance of renowed artist Maureen Hansen. You may even find that art promotes self-expression and healthing. No previous experience is required.  

Choices for Women with Breast and Gynaecological Cancer
This program offers a gynaecological cancer exercise program, presentations of relevant topics and complementary therapies. There are opportunities to meet other women who have had a similar experience.

Choices for Women with Inflammatory Breast Cancer
Sharing information and support this group focuses on issues for women diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer.

Choices for Women with Secondary Breast Cancer  
This group offers support, friendship, resources and information specifically catered for women with secondary breast cancer. In addition, an individual exercise program  supervised by physiotherapists is offered.

Complementary Therapies 
Individual Reiki and Reflexology sessions by qualified practitioners are offered at Choices. These sessions are designed to counteract stress and help you to relax.

Gynaecological Exercise Program
This program is designed to meet the specific needs of women of all ages following gynaecological cancer surgery and treatment. It utilises exercises to improve range, motion, flexibility and strength of the lower body. 

Look Good Feel Better Program
The Kim Walters Choices Program hosts Look Good Feel Better workshops. These workshops are an initiative of the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association. These workshops are dedicated to teaching beauty techniques to help restore your appearance and self image during your treatment for cancer.

Choices Volunteer Team

The Kim Walters Choices Program acknowledges the work of all its volunteers as they provide a valuable service to the community as well as assisting the well being of an individual with either a breast or gynaecological cancer.

Meditation and Relaxation

Rural and Regional Workhops
Choices is reaching out further to these families with information and support in an attempt to encourage equity of access for women, men and their families throughout remote, regional and rural areas of Queensland.

Sisters After Stretch 
A special group of breast cancer survivors run a monthly craft and sewing workshop, with an emphasis on learning, laughter and being there for each other. No experience in craft or sewing is required.

STRENGTH Exercise Program
An 8 week day or evening program designed specifically for post surgery women with breast cancer to improve their range of motion and strength. There is a group discussion and information session. STRENGTH is available at The Wesley in Brisbane, at the Gold Coast and on the North Coast.

Tai Chi 
A gentle exercise program. Tai Chi is a moderate cardiovascular training exercise. The health benefits of Tai chi are well documented. So come and try our 4 week introductory program.

Women who partner women
Women who partner with women as cancer patients, survivors and partners are at greater risk of added stress because of social biases and health care that can be insensitive to their needs.

Yoga  
Our accredited yoga instructor has adapted this class especially for women who have had cancers, so come and experience the many health benefits yoga has to offer.

Younger Women’s Group  
Younger women with breast cancer face specific issues surrounding diagnosis, treatment and support needs. This group provides the opportunity to meet and be supported by women in a similar situation. A special guest speaker will discuss a topic relevant to young women experiencing breast cancer.

Program Location

The program is located within the grounds of The Wesley Hospital, Auchenflower, Brisbane. Most services are held within the Choices Rooms. Some services are available at the Gold Coast, Caboolture, Roma and Murgon.
