Where can I talk to other women about breast cancer?

The Wesley Hospital Kim Walters Choices Program provides an excellent opportunity for this, with sessions held every week. These sessions involve specially trained volunteers who have personally experienced breast cancer and other women currently experiencing their own personal breast cancer journey. They are happy to share their thoughts and feelings with you. You do not need an appointment, just drop in to the Choices cottage (The Wesley Hospital), or phone 1800 227 271.

 What does the program do?

Choices is a unique support program for women, men and their families affected by breast cancer. Choices is an informal and self-directed service that is provided to the community for free.

The Program provides a 'drop in centre' for women and their families to receive information, support, sharing, education and friendship. It is staffed by Breast Care Nurse Educators and volunteers who have been affected by breast cancer themselves. No appointment is necessary.

 Who will you see?

Your information, care and support needs are met by a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team, including a specialist Breast Care Nurse, counsellor and specially trained volunteers who have a personal experience of breast cancer. Our Breast Clinic medical staff are also available for medical consultation and support.

How do you access Choices ?

Choices is a free, easily accessible informal self-directed service for all women, men and their families, regardless of where they have their treatment.

You are welcome to drop in at any time to find:

  • Information about breast cancer and its treatment
  • Other women who can share their breast cancer experience with you
  • Advice about other relevant services and practical assistance
  • Books, videos and documents which may help you
  • Answers to many of the questions that concern you

  •  What if you live out of town?

The Choices staff can also help you through phone support or via email. We have a free 1800 number (1800 227 271), or you can email This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .

     How Does Choices Receive Funding?

As The Wesley Hospital Kim Walters Choices Program is a not-for-profit organisation, it relies on donations from the public and corporate sponsorship. However, the Program does work to raise additional funding through Think Pink Day held in July and various events held throughout the year.
