BUDERIM PRIVITE HOSPITAL was the vision of a local GP’s wife who felt it unnecessary that her husband and his patients should have to travel to Nambour for hospitalisation. At a dinner in 1977 at Mrs Wilson’s home the guests included 2 General Surgeons, 2 GP’s, a solicitor and a Architect. Mrs Wilson presented her dream which was received with considerable interest. The QIT was engaged to do a Market feasibility study, the result of which was most favourable. The original committee of six eventually expanded as the work load necessitated.
On June 1979, Michael John Ahern MLA, member for Landsborough, dedicated a stone to commemorate the commencement of construction of the Buderim Private Hospital. Civil and Civic were enraged to build the Hospital, and Mrs Wilson ran the committee responsible for internal furnishings and fittings. The inaugural Hospital Board comprised:
DIRECTORS: J.J. Barbeler W.B. Duets
J.P. Birrell Dr.J.R. Wilson
Dr .A.R. Cruice Dr B.C. Wolff
PROVISIONAL DIRECTOR S.A Nielsen
The Hospital’s first patient was admitted on the 26th of March, 1980 and official opening was held on the 5th of July, 1980. the Hon Mr M.J.B. MacKellar MP, Commonwealth Minister for Health preformed the ceremony. Unfortunately Mrs Wilson was diagnosed with cancer and died in September, 1980, so did not have to enjoy her dream.
We are proud of our environmental surroundings which are a great attraction to out patients and visitors. Our meals which are cooked on the premises also bring many complements form satisfied patients. We had tried to maintain a “friendly atmosphere“ for staff as we are sure contented staff produce contained patients. The strategic planning currently underway to determine the future development of Buderim Private Hospital is focused at all times on our motto………WE CARE.
