The Wesley Hospital Kim Walters Choices Program (KWCP or Choices) was initially established in 1998, to support breast cancer patients and their families. However in 2006, Choices was officially expanded to accommodate the increasing number of patients with ‘other types’ of cancers, who regularly used the program, in the absence of any other support. Today, the Choices program assists women and men of all ages. The program provides practical support, sharing, and information regardless of where the individual is undergoing treatment. Specifically, the program provides information, breast care nurse ward visits, exercise and relaxation programs designed to aid post-operative recovery and coping with adjuvant therapies, peer-support, complementary therapies, individual counselling and drop-in centres, free-of-charge to patients and their families. Groups are offered for partners, younger women, and women with secondary breast cancer. |
