At UnitingCare, we oppose exploitative practices that violate an individual’s dignity and human rights in all forms. We are committed to preventing, detecting and responding to modern slavery risks in our operations and supply chains.

Modern slavery includes trafficking persons, slavery, servitude, forced marriage, forced labour, debt bondage, deceptive recruiting for labour or services, and child labour.

We are taking meaningful steps to reduce modern slavery risks and initiate improvements within our operations and supply chains. Since 2020/21, we have matured our supply chain risk assurance mechanisms by expanding the use of our supplier risk management tools; assessed risks of modern slavery associated with new and recontracted suppliers; built supplier capacity to respond to modern slavery through awareness-raising and training; and provided training for staff to recognise, prevent and respond to concerns of modern slavery.

Our key areas of focus for 2023/2024 include:

  • Review our risk assessment to identify gaps and actions/controls across our various operations to further our development of UnitingCare’s Modern Slavery Strategic Roadmap.
  • Continue to monitor and resolve risks in our supply chain.
  • Continue to increase collaboration within our networks and with our partners, to strengthen our response to modern slavery.
  • Improve reporting mechanisms and resolution processes.
  • Review training and education material to ensure up to date messaging is reflected.

UnitingCare’s Modern Slavery Statement outlines the action we have taken to identify and mitigate the risk of modern slavery occurring in our business operations and supply chains in accordance with the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth).
